Victoria on Victoria

Not an autobio, but a travelogue. So far the book is available on Amazon, happily the DVD is being released, but so far it's only available to order from BBCshop, and will be available mid-year. No sign of the series being available on TV here in the Antipodes (yet, she added)even though Victoria does travel to NZ in the doco (to Victoria University, perhaps - that's the only well-known use of Victoria here in kiwiland that I can think of.

P.S. Look for me endeavouring to post a video clip of SWMB Queen interviewed on NZ telly when she was here previously. Boo hoo, I was too poor to go.

French & Wood Pt 3 (of 3)

gmaternal has a great selection of female comedy on youtube, especially Dawn French's "Girls who do"

French & Wood Pt 2 (another from gmaternal)

This is what I meant to do: French & Wood Pt 1

French & Wood 1

Fab! Thanks, gmaternal

Pat & Margaret were here first

Granted we live at the bottom of the world, viz. the Antipodes but for some queer* reason Pat and Margaret was released in this country last year when it hasn't even come out on DVD yet in the UK - but it is coming soon, possums. Of course I had to buy a copy having already got a precious second-hand copy of the video. Heirlooms! There are no outtakes or extras on the DVD though. Come to think of it, the same applies to Let Them Eat Cake which I've had on DVD for a couple of years.

The Australasian version:

I've got all of Pond Life on DVD too, because it was released in Australasia on DVD, but never in the UK. Odd???? Jealous?

(* I mean this in the Five Go Mad in Dorset sense, in this case).
The excitement is too much for one day! Victoria Wood Presents will be released on 21 May this year (two days after VW's birthday) - 54 this year. This is her collection of six comedy plays featuring her repertory cast. My favourites are Mens Sana... and Val De Ree:

"enough Latin to buy a paper"

"we're all trotting up different snickets"

"take tube A and apply to bracket D with flange channel OUTERMOST"

...so I spent all that money importing used video tapes of these programm
es and then transferring them to DVD but I DON'T CARE. I'm buying the DVD anyway although my partner will give me a blast, no doubt.

He's not as mental a fan as me, but he will watch Dinnerladies serially until comatose. Last night we watched S1 Ep 1 for the gazillionth time. Best scene:

"She should have cleaned her freezer out a bit more often"

"Oh, turkey baster. I thought it were a job"

He pulled a face when we moved on to another Ep of Bleak House which of course coincidentally includes Anne Reid in the cast:

Bert Thung from Edinburgh, if you are out there in cyberspace I am jealous of you. You have somehow, through fair means or foul managed to get hold of "Talent", by which I first became obsessed by VW's brilliant abilities. See Bert's blog for the evidence!

I would like to get in touch with you (hotdigitaldog[[[at]]]gmail.com) to find out if I can somehow obtain a copy on VHS or DVD. But I can't find a way to get in touch. HELLLLLP MMEEEEEE.

Hurrah! Only a few days since my trembling fingers opened my duly-received DVD of "Housewife 49" - no sign of it being on TV here in New Zealand - when I learn that next month we can celebrate the release of the compleat Victoria Wood as seen on TV, so I can ditch my homemade DVD compilation of bits and pieces from More Victoria Wood as... . Yes! 400 vintage minutes of she who must be Queen.
